The World Blind Union (WBU) has established committees and working groups to help achieve the objectives in our Strategic Plan.
We are grateful to all those who serve on our committees and working groups to advance our mission. Below is a list of our Committees and Working Groups and the chairs for each. Should you wish to contact any of the chairs, please reach out to us at info@wbu.ngo.
The Finance Committee is responsible for reviewing all relevant financial information such as budgets, financial statements, and audit reports and makes recommendations to WBU leadership.
Chair: Diane Bergeron, Canada
The Constitution Committee will be tasked with reviewing the WBU’s governing documents to find opportunities for modernization.
Chair: Santosh Kumar (SK) Rungta, India
The Membership Committee oversees all aspects of the process of becoming and remaining a member within WBU and makes recommendations to the broader WBU leadership team.
Chair: Diana Stentoft, Denmark
The Professional Conduct Committee is responsible for overseeing compliance with policies and codes of conduct that govern behavior and conduct within WBU.

The Development Committee is responsible for identifying and implementing actions to build capacity among member organizations and promote disability-inclusive development, including inclusive and accessible humanitarian and disaster risk reduction responses.

The Nominations Committee will be tasked with recommending nominees to stand for election as a Table Officer at the 2025 General Assembly. Please note: members of this committee may not include anyone who intends to seek election as a Table Officer at the 2025 General Assembly.

The Women’s Committee is tasked with identifying and implementing activities that improve the lives of women who are blind or partially sighted.
Chair: Diane Bergeron, Canada
The WBC is a forum for discussing and advising on different international dimensions of Braille usage, teaching, and production.
Chair: Judy Dixon, USA
The Youth Committee is a forum for youth who are blind or partially sighted to work collectively to identify and implement actions that will improve the lives of blind and partially sighted youth. Please note: membership in the committee is limited to youth, which WBU defines as anyone 35 years old or younger.

The Sports and Rec Committee will explore ways to increase access to sports and recreation opportunities for those who are blind or partially sighted.
Chair: Yaw Ofori Debra, Ghana
Working groups are composed of individuals with expertise in a given area and typically focus on a limited area of scope as identified by WBU leadership.
This working group is tasked with identifying and implementing actions that will improve access to the built environment for those who are blind or partially sighted.
Chair: Thomas Bryan, New Zealand
This working group is tasked with identifying and implementing actions that will improve access to accessible and assistive technology for those who are blind or partially sighted.
Chair: Robert Gaunt, Canada
This working group has been tasked with providing advice on the 2025 WBU General Assembly
Chair: Martine Abel-Williamson, New Zealand
This working group is focused on promoting the ratification and implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty and undertaking any other identified activities that increase access to books.

This working group has been tasked with identifying opportunities to improve the support that regions and member organizations receive from WBU.
